This is not the end of my Sheet Music Collection. I will be back again with some more later. Just imagine you've moved into another room of the Museum. This time I will be concentrating on WHISTLES - the humblest of the 'aerophone' family. In these instruments air is the primary vibrating agent. When air is blown into the instrument, in most cases via a duct, it hits against a sharp-edged obstacle and the body of air inside is set into vibration. We perceive these vibrations as sound - some shrill, some piercing, some imitating bird sounds, others ethereal .......
We had a wonderful Exhibition of Whistles at Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum back in 2009 which we called Whistles: from Ritual to Toys. This was the first in a series of smaller exhibitions organised by Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti. Some amazing instruments turned up.
